New collection

Haze — after the rain.

Named for the soft grey mornings along the Yarra, this season's pieces keep to four colours: linen white, oat, stone and one deep, plant-dyed indigo. Everything layers with everything.

Materials & craft

Fewer things, better made.

We started Form & Fibre in 2016 with a single loom and a stubborn idea: that the textiles we live with every day should be honest about where they come from. Today we work with eleven workshops in Australia, Japan and Lithuania — each one visited, each one paid fairly.

We choose fibres that soften with use and can be repaired, dye with plants where we can, and never produce more than a season will sell.

  • European flax linenGrown in Normandy, spun and woven in Lithuania, stonewashed for softness.
  • Tasmanian woolFrom a small flock of Corriedale sheep in the Midlands, scoured and left undyed.
  • Plant-dyed indigoDyed by hand in fermented indigo vats in Tokushima, Japan. Every batch differs slightly.
  • Local stonewareThrown and fired within 90 km of our Fitzroy store, in the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley.
"A throw should look better in its tenth winter than its first. That is the only brief we give our weavers."Clare Tran, founder

Maker of the season

Tessa Marlow, Ranges Clay Studio

Tessa digs part of her clay from a hillside near Kallista and fires in a gas kiln she rebuilt herself. Her Still mugs are thrown in batches of forty — each one slightly different, all of them made to be held with both hands.
