Walking the GR221
The Dry Stone Route passes just above the finca. Take the classic climb up the Barranc de Biniaraix towards the Cúber reservoir, or the gentler coast path to Deià. We pack the lunch and arrange a taxi back.
Sóller · Serra de Tramuntana · Mallorca
Ten rooms in a restored stone finca among orange and olive terraces above Sóller. Wake to birdsong and distant church bells, swim above the valley, and let the Tramuntana set the pace.
The finca
Sa Talaia was built in 1884 by an orange grower who shipped his fruit from Port de Sóller to Marseille. Four generations later, Joana and Tomeu Ferrer have restored it slowly and carefully – keeping the worn stone stairs and the great olive press, adding the pool on the top terrace.
There is no television, no lobby and no hurry. There is a library of well-thumbed books, a fireplace in the old press house for cool spring evenings, and an honesty bar stocked with wine from a small family bodega across the island.

Lime-washed stone walls, old beams, handwoven Mallorcan fabrics, linen sheets and green shutters that open onto the valley. Rates are per night for two guests and include breakfast and use of the pool and spa.
The Grove Room at seven in the morning.
Our classic rooms in the main house: a queen bed facing the shutters, a writing desk, and a bathroom with hand-made Mallorcan tiles and a rain shower.
Tucked under the roof with exposed beams, a deep window seat and a small balcony facing the mountains – the best place in the house to watch the sun leave the peaks.
Two connecting rooms opening straight onto the orange grove, with a king bed and a pair of bunks. Extra guests €45 including breakfast.
The old olive-press house, with its original millstone, a freestanding bath, and a private terrace and plunge pool looking up at the Tramuntana.
Minimum three nights in July and August. Stays of five nights or more receive 10% off. Children under 4 stay free. Balearic tourist tax is paid at the finca.
Experiences
Everything starts at the garden gate. Tomeu has walked these mountains since he was a boy and is happy to point you somewhere nobody else will be.
The Dry Stone Route passes just above the finca. Take the classic climb up the Barranc de Biniaraix towards the Cúber reservoir, or the gentler coast path to Deià. We pack the lunch and arrange a taxi back.
The old wooden tram rattles from Sóller's square down through the orange groves to Port de Sóller. Swim in the horseshoe bay, eat grilled fish by the harbour, and ride back up as the lights come on.
A saltwater pool on the top terrace looks straight across the valley to the mountains. Below, in the old rainwater cistern, a small spa with a steam room and a treatment room for massages with our own olive oil.
Breakfast & olive oil
Breakfast is served at one long table under the vine pergola, from eight until the last guest is ready. Joana bakes the bread; almost everything else comes from the finca or the Saturday market in Sóller.
Every Tuesday and Friday at six, Tomeu leads an olive-oil tasting in the old press house: our own early-harvest oil beside three from neighbouring estates, with bread, olives and a glass of island white (€35). Three evenings a week we serve a set supper on the terrace (€58) – think lamb from the valley, red prawns from the port and orange-blossom crema. Just let us know by noon.

“We came for three nights and stayed six. A swim as the sun left the mountains, then supper on the terrace with strangers who were friends by dessert – I still think about it most weeks.”
“Tomeu walked us to the start of the GR221 at seven, before the heat. We watched a black vulture circle the ridge. Joana had orange juice and warm ensaïmadas waiting when we got back.”
“Quiet in the best possible way. Our children slept in the bunks and spent every day between the pool and the orange trees. It's the calmest holiday we've ever had as a family.”
